April 23, 2026 - Led by the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service team in India under the Canadian International Innovation Program (CIIP), a delegation of Canadian companies visited Mumbai and Kolkata from April 14 to 17. Their goal was to build partnerships in clean energy innovations. These innovations align with India’s scale and support its transition to a sustainable, low-carbon future. The focus areas included:

  • AI-enabled smart grids for grid modernization and transmission

  • Next-gen insulators and real-time diagnostics for resilient renewable and grid infrastructure

  • Closed loop resource recovery of critical minerals from e-waste

  • Real-time monitoring for improved efficiency, safety, and reliability of batteries and electrolyzers

  • Next-gen hydrogen and integrated clean energy platforms

  • Peer-to-peer rooftop solar trading and emissions tracking

Building Strategic Partnerships

In Mumbai, the Canadian companies met with industry leaders such as Tata Power, JSW Group, Waaree Group, and Ernst & Young. These meetings were crucial for establishing connections and exploring collaborative opportunities.

In Kolkata, the delegation engaged with public sector power and mining companies under the Government of West Bengal. They met representatives from The Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) and Metallurgical and Engineering Consultants (MECON). These interactions opened doors for future partnerships that could enhance operational efficiency and sustainability.

Tailored B2B Meetings

The Canadian delegation also participated in over 200 tailored B2B meetings. These were organized in partnership with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). During these sessions, they interacted with nearly 80 Indian industry players. This engagement generated meaningful dialogue around emerging business opportunities.
